Families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography, gambling and contraband drugs through and through electronic mail and text to unit and children’s Internet and cellphone inboxes, according to Alisha Meneely, state community outreach coordinator for Protect MI Child.“As I’ve traveled the state since Christmas, one thing I’ve got is the number of parents who come up to me and sound off about these ads,” Meneely said. “The second a parent buys a radiophone or opposite Internet technology, they should register all phone, blink of an eye message and email addresses with the Michigan Child Protection registry.“The Michigan Child Protection registry is another tool that parents can use to protective cover their children from cyber predators,” she said. “It should be used in conjunction with educating their children about computer network safety, including stressing the importance of guarding their personal information online, avoiding contact with Internet strangers and telling a parent or other adult if anything they come crosswise makes them feel uncomfortable.”Breuker celebrated the increasing numbers of young children, including those under age 5, that are using cellphones, tablets and computers.
